An Introduction
Hi there. I’m Katie — the voice behind the journal, the eye behind the camera, and the heart behind the A Nod to Nature brand.
I don’t have the soothing voice of a guru or a long list of credentials. I’m just someone who was told that the things they cared about didn’t matter — and I decided to care about them anyway.

Someone with a small, stubborn spark of courage and the audacity to dream that as I learn, as I heal, as I grow, I can leave beacons in my wake — traces of hope to light the way for anyone walking the same path.
Not signposts, but lifelines — for those who find sanctuary in the tones and textures of nature as I do, those who seek to fill the void of beauty and empowerment in their lives as I have, and those who are learning to follow their heart, slowly and imperfectly, back to themselves.
My creative works are a celebration of all the magical contradictions both in and around us — our loud failings, our secret struggles, our silent triumphs, our longing for peaceful paths, beautiful views, challenging trails, and each other.
They’re my invitation to honor yourself — to find the things that captivate, soothe, and inspire you, to fill your space with words, ideas, and elements that bring you peace and feed your soul. To pause, look closer… deeper… and value what you see.
A Nod to Nature is a collection of the beauty I’ve captured and the pain I’ve alchemized in my own journey — a quiet haven filled with color and courage, stillness and strength, and my hope for a well-lit path for anyone who finds their way here.

A Nod to Nature
A nod is an expression of admiration, approval, or amusement; an intentional salute to anything worthy of our attention. These reverent acknowledgments are the ways of a child, often forgotten as we grow. Pausing at a century-old tree to run our fingers along the gentle lines in its bark. Noticing the morning shadows dance across the kitchen floor and swaying along. Admiring a sunflower, chatting with a squirrel, or thanking the bees.
These habits came to the forefront on our homestead where we spent over a decade tending gardens, caring for animals, and regenerating the land. Each season made its mark in its own way. Life moved at nature’s pace, teaching us patience, balance, and respect for the soil that sustained us. Although we recently relocated, leaving our permaculture paradise for a new adventure, the rhythm stayed with us:
Pause. Notice. Honor what we see, hear, and feel.
A Nod to Nature is more than a name; it’s a reminder to slow down, look closer, and give a nod to the things worth noticing.
